Old Market 23.5

I joined to be staff for "Old market 23.5" yesterday. The venue of market held was an old road 200 years ago, and now it's just a peaceful small community in Chiayi City. 23.5 means the latitute that Chiayi locates. In Ching Dynasty, when you pass the road that just 3 meters wide, it means you leave the boundary of old Ciayi city.

The market was held by a community bookstore owner, Kuo-shing Yu, 2 university girls and many volunteers. We hold the market for independent artists, SOHOs and people who wanna join us for selling their unique goods and ideas. Furthermore, all staffs was trying to call counter-signature for protecting the old Chiayi City Hall.

Old Chiayi City Hall was built in 1920 when Japanese governed Taiwan. According to reference, old city hall has the same style with Taiwan's presidential office. For Chiayi people, it's not only a historical structure, but also a memory of our hometown. I think, people don't want to lose the history and story of their city, that's why we got over 700 counter-signature for asking Chiayi city to keep it (even 2nd floor was dismantled).

Finally, we made it successfully. There were over 140 stalls registed in our market. During beautiful Saturday, people enjoyed summer breeze, special hand-made accessory, fair trade coffee, NGO informations, traditional Taiwan foods, and most important of all, we call more people to protect and take care the old city hall.
